Scarlett Johansson Lost Girl With Dragon Tattoo Role for Being Too Good

Scarlett Johansson Lost Girl With Dragon Tattoo Role for Being Too Good, Scarlett Johansson was among the bevy of A-list actresses who lost out on the sought-after role of Lisbeth Salander in this fall's The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, based on late Swedish author Stieg Larsson's blockbuster crime novel (the first in a bestselling trilogy).
Director David Fincher eventually gave the part in his American adaptation to lesser-known actress Rooney Mara, with whom he worked on The Social Network.
"We flew in people from New Zealand and Swaziland and all over the place," Fincher explained to Vogue. "Look, we saw some amazing people. Scarlett Johansson was great. It was a great audition, I'm telling you."
So why didn't Johansson, 26, nab the part? "But the thing with Scarlett is, you can't wait for her to take her clothes off."
Indeed, Johansson is probably too voluptuous for the edgy role as it is written in the book. Brilliant, socially freakish computer hacker Salander is a "a pale, anorexic young woman who had hair as short as a fuse, and a pierced nose and eyebrows," author Larson wrote of Lizbeth, who is covered in tattoos.
"I keep trying to explain this," Fincher said of his hunt for the protagonist, played by Noomi Rapace in the original Swedish-language trilogy." Salander should be like E.T. If you put E.T. dolls out before anyone had seen the movie, they would say, 'What is this little squishy thing?' Well, you know what? When he hides under the table and he grabs the Reese's Pieces, you love him! It has to be like that."
He added: "I had seen a lot of actresses. I was beginning to get to the point where I was thinking, 'Maybe conceptually you are talking about a person who doesn't exist'."

Earth's population to hit 7 billion people
by sizzerbiz | 03:42 in Amazing, Earth's population to hit 7 billion people, News, World |
Earth's population to hit 7 billion people, Think back to when the first caveman and cavewoman were sitting around in their cave, bored and lonely. We wonder if they envisioned the sheer magnitude of the decision they were about to make.
Fast forward to 2012 and 2 people has become 7 billion. According to the United Nations, the world population will reach 7 billion by the end of the month. Sadly, no one is celebrating as it has taken only 12 years to jump from 6 billion to 7 billion. With rapid growth like this, our planet is inching dangerously close to exhausting both space and resources. Jeffrey D. Sachs, director of the Earth Institute, laments the asymptotic population climb:
"This is a crowded planet. This is trouble, frankly..."
Oh boy. Is it time to talk about creepy population control techniques a la "Logan's Run" or "The Lottery?" Thankfully, Sachs has a more humane idea -- reduce infant mortality. But wouldn't that increase the population?
"When children survive predictably then parents choose to have fewer children...In the high-income and most of the middle-income countries, population is stabilized. It's in the poorest countries -- where you don't have access to health care, family planning, where the children die in large numbers, when the girls aren't able to stay in school -- that the population is soaring."
So, like any problem, the solution lies in creating a healthy quality of life for all Earth's inhabitants. Hopefully, we will look at his benchmark as another example as to why we as a species need to continue to evolve intelligently and spend our time and energy striking a symbiotic balance with our planet. Or else how will we survive to see the inevitable "Twilight" reboot?!
