Penn State’s Mike McQueary Won’t Coach Due to “Multiple Threats” - Citing “multiple threats” against him, Penn State announced Thursday night that wide receivers coach Mike McQueary, who allegedly witnessed former Penn State assistant Jerry Sandusky raping a 10-year-old boy, won’t be coaching for Penn State on Saturday against Nebraska. Whether or not the school feared for his safety, McQueary should not have been at this game.
For the Penn State Board of Trustees, one of the justifications for firing Joe Paterno was that, if he had coached Saturday’s game against Nebraska, a nation’s attention would be focused on a potential enabler of sexual abuse wandering the sideline, representing Penn State on a very public stage. The spectacle could have further damaged the reputation of the school. So removing him now was the sensible move.
According to the grand jury report in the case against Sandusky, who is charged with 40 counts relating to sexual abuse against a minor, in 2002 McQueary, then a graduate assistant coach at Penn State, looked into the showers of the Penn State football locker room, and saw Sandusky allegedly raping a 10-year-old boy.
A stunned McQueary, a former Penn State quarterback who is now the team’s wide receivers coach, conferred with his father, and decided to inform Paterno about the incident (Paterno has said McQueary did not share the more graphic details; McQueary has not shared the details of his conversation with Paterno). McQueary, according to the report, then told two university administrators about the incident. Those administrators, Penn State athletic director Tim Curley, who is on administrative leave, and vice president for finance and business Gary Scultz, who resigned under pressure from the scandal, have both been charged with perjury and failing to report a sex abuse crime.
Like Paterno, McQueary filled his legal obligation. But doesn’t he have a moral obligation too? McQueary has not spoken publicly about the case, presumably due to the legal restrictions surrounding it. But according to the grand jury report, McQueary swore under oath that he witnessed a child rape by Sandusky. For the sake of argument, let’s say that in the moment of shock, McQueary thought he saw a crime that, in reality, was less severe. That doesn’t matter: in McQueary’s mind, he saw rape.
Yet, for years after that alleged attack Sandusky, who founded a charity for at-risk boys, was still seen as a pillar of the Penn State community. After university administrators conferred, Sandusky was allegedly only banned from bringing children on campus. He reportedly abused again. If McQueary had called the cops earlier, he could have stopped it.
Until we hear from McQueary, this story could take a whole new direction. We might be missing something. The information in front of us tells us one thing: Mike McQueary testified to seeing an awful crime, and didn’t inform police authorities about it for years afterwards. How does someone justify, and cope with, such inaction? And how can Penn State justify keeping him on the payroll?

Despite their best efforts -- including Grace's cartwheel finish -- the pair failed to impress the judges, who awarded them a mere 20/30 points. (Earlier in the night, they earned 24/30 for their tango routine.)
"Nancy, yours is a Cinderella story. You've come to the ball and you've lasted for eight weeks, which I commend you for," judge Len Goodman, 67, told her. "For me, it's midnight and it's time to go home."
Grace didn't take Goodman's critique to heart, telling co-host Brooke Burke, 40: "That's what the Wicked Witch said too, but Cinderella got her prince and managed to stay at the palace!"
While Grace and MacManus disappointed the judges, J.R. Martinez and Karina Smirnoff earned the first perfect score of Season 13 -- twice! Ricki Lake and Hope Solo tied for second place with 52/60 points, while Rob Kardashian came in fourth place with 51/60.
Drake Take Care album leaks online - Drake's new album, "Take Care," has found its way onto the Internet a few days before it was set to be released. The Canadian rapper acknowledged the leak on Twitter, and asked fans to buy the album if they like it.
"I am not sure if the album leaked. But if it did thank god it doesn't happen a month early anymore," he wrote. "Listen, enjoy it, buy it if you like it...and take care until next time."
"Take Care," the 25-year-old's sophomore album, will be officially released on Nov. 15.
His debut record, "Thank Me Later," came out in 2010 and debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart.
Jay-Z explains impact of hip-hop, 'fight' over 'all-rap' tour, Jay-Z, a hip-hop icon, husband of Beyonce and one of the most successful music producers today, says promoters were reluctant to support his first "all-rap" tour more than 10 years ago.
The 41-year-old Grammy-winning rapper made his comments in a recent interview that is part of the AOL HuffPost Media Group's new video series, "Tanning Effect." Its host, Steve Stoute, is promoting his first book, The Tanning Of America: How the Culture of Hip-Hop Rewrote the Rules of the New Economy," which was released in September.
Jay-Z was born Shawn Carter in Brooklyn in New York City. He began his music career in the mid-1990s and in 1996 dropped his first album, "Reasonable Doubt," which also featured late rapper The Notorious B.I.G.
Two years later, Jay-Z released what would become his breakout single, "Hard Knock Life (Ghetto Anthem)." In 1999, he and fellow hip hop artists DMX, Method Man and Redman embarked on the "Hard Knock Life Tour," which was also the subject of a 2000 documentary called "Back Stage."
"The first time we were doing an all-rap lineup ... I remember the first time we were trying to take this out - it was like, 'You need an R&B act on the bill,'" Jay-Z said. "They were really telling us that for insurance purposes and for the look of the thing. I was like, 'No.'"
"DMX had had two No. 1 albums out that year. I had an album that year that sold 5 million copies. I'm like, 'I think we can tour at least in America,'" he added. "But it was always that sort of fight. And then when we got to those concerts, it was like, 80-20, it was like white people in the audience. Just dominated it. And this is this all-rap concert."
Hip-hop music is among the most popular genres today and tops the mainstream pop charts around the world. Jay-Z said the genre "has always been a global thing" and compared it to jazz.
"In the early days of jazz, Quincy Jones and them, they were touring overseas before they (were) even allowed to play clubs in the South," he told Stoute. "So hip-hop was just young, youth music that didn't have those boundaries outside of America."
Despite its popularity, hip hop is also among the most criticized of music genres.
Some say many rap songs glorify violence and drug use and that young people may be too influenced by feuds between U.S. rappers that have lead to deaths, such as the killings of The Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac Shakur. Others say such criticism is unfounded and that rap music provides escapism, much like movies or video games. Jay-Z said hip-hop is "about expression."
"Hip-hop had a voice," he told Stoute. 'Jazz hit great notes and things like that but hip-hop spoke directly to people, spoke to their heart, into how they were feeling."
Jay-Z, who was once a gang member who sold drugs on the street, has spoken out about his own history with violence. He also wrote about shooting his older brother Eric, a crack cocaine addict, in his song "You Must Love Me."
Jay-Z and fellow hip-hop artist Kanye West are currently on a U.S. tour to promote their joint album, "Watch The Throne," which topped music charts in more than 20 countries. The record hit stores in August.
