Toddler Found Dead Near Suburban St. Louis Cemetery
Toddler Found Dead Near Suburban St. Louis Cemetery - The body of a 1-year-old boy was found Tuesday afternoon by people walking their dogs near a cemetery hours after the child was reported missing from his suburban St. Louis home. A medical examiner confirmed the body was that of missing Tyler Dasher but did not immediately determine the cause of death, St. Louis County police spokesman said.
The boy's body was found about a mile from home in Affton, Mo., and St. Louis County Police Chief Tim Fitch called for anyone involved in Tyler's death to be brought to justice.
"Anyone that would take a child into a wooded area like this needs to be dealt with severely by the criminal justice system," Fitch told STLToday.com.
Fitch says there are no suspects. Police continue to interview Tyler's mother and father, who live separately.
A witness reportedly told police they saw an adult in dark sweatshirt walking down the street carrying a child wrapped in a blanket early Tuesday morning.
According to police, there were no signs of forced entry into the home where the child was sleeping.
"There is no way to explain how this child got out of his crib, out of his room and out of the house," said Officer Rick Eckhard of the St. Louis County Police Department told STLToday.com.
Tyler's mother, 20-year-old Shelby Dasher, told authorities she put him to bed about 10:30 p.m. Monday. She overslept and reported him missing after she awoke at about 11 a.m.
