Tintin beats Timberlake challenge
Tintin beats Timberlake challenge - Tintin holds off Justin Timberlake challenge. Steven Spielberg's Tintin film has held onto the top spot in the UK and Ireland box office chart, defying a challenge from Justin Timberlake's movie In Time. On its second weekend on release, CGI animation The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn made £2.19m.
Timberlake's thriller made £1.88m - a total that includes takings from three days of previews.
Ben Stiller comedy Tower Heist was a new entry at third in this week's chart with returns of £1.45m.
That total also includes takings from previews, with Brett Ratner's film having opened in UK cinemas last Wednesday.
Another new release, Gerard Butler's fact-based drama Machine Gun Preacher, also made its debut on 2 November.
Its early start did little to boost its performance, as the film - about a former biker who builds an orphanage in east Africa - made its debut in 10th position.
Tintin, In Time and Tower Heist were the only releases this week to make more than £1m in UK and Ireland cinemas.
The rest of this week's Top 5 has a familiar ring, being rounded out by sequels to supernatural spine-tingler Paranormal Activity and spy spoof Johnny English.
Best known as a singer, Timberlake has recently appeared in films includingThe Social Network and Friends with Benefits.
In Time sees him playing a man living in a futuristic society where units of time, not money, are used as currency.
