Miss World pageant 2011 winner
Miss World pageant 2011 winner - Miss Venezuela, Ivian Sarcos, takes the crown. Congratulations are in order for Miss Venezuela! Ivian Sarcos was crowned the winner of the Miss World Pageant 2011 on Nov. 6 in London. Her crown was handed over by last year's winner, Alexandra Mills, who competed for the United States.
113 women competed in this year's pageant, which was broadcast to 150 countries and over a billion estimated viewers. Meanwhile, outside, 50 feminists protested the pageant -- and, indeed, pageants in general. "Objectification won't achieve world peace", "Being a woman is not a competition" and "Sexism is pretty ugly," read their signs.
But the women on stage believed they were embodying a different kind of feminism. "I believe that the next Miss World should be a woman of responsibility and reason," Sarcos, who has a degree in human resources, said during the competition. "I believe the woman should be committed to the organization and help people in need. Beauty with a heart."
She won the interview round.
The runner-up was Miss Philippines, Gwendoline Ruais, and Miss Puerto Rico, Amanda Perez, claimed third place. Next year's pageant will take place at Ordos in Inner Mongolia, China.
