Chelsea Clinton to report for NBC News
Chelsea Clinton to report for NBC News - Chelsea Clinton Gets New Job as NBC News Special Correspondent. Talk about a hard-to-beat resume!. NBC News has hired an American royal for a news correspondent position: Chelsea Clinton. The New York Times reports that the former first kid, 31, and daughter of former President Bill Clinton and current Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, will work as a full time special correspondent for segments called "Making a Difference." The new segments will highlight significant stories of people who impact their communities through volunteer work.
Clinton says that it was her late grandmother, Dorothy Rodham, who inspired her to take on this new career. "I hope telling stories through 'Making a Difference' - as in my academic work and non profit work - will help me to live my grandmother's adage of 'Life is not about what happens to you, but about what you do with what happens to you,'" she explained in a statement.
"It's not about Chelsea Clinton saying, 'Here I am; I want to be a TV star.'" Steve Capus, President of NBC News told the NY Times, "[Chelsea] made it very clear that this is not going to be a surface-deep relationship. She wants to be in the field for the shoot and in the edit room for the edit."
And Clinton (who married Marc Mezvinsky on Aug. 1 2010) won't be raking in the big bucks, either. The majority of her salary will be donated to the Clinton Foundation and the George Washington Hospital.
