'Real Housewives' star Jacqueline Laurita: 'Teresa is scum', In true late-season "Real Housewives" fashion, the gloves have come off. As the third season of the "Real Housewives of New Jersey" winds down -- amid word that Jacqueline Laurita quit the show and did not attend the finale taping -- two previously friendly cast mates are now coming to blows.

Verbal blows, that is. When rumors surfaced that Melissa Gorga once worked as a stripper, Jacqueline began implying on her Twitter that Melissa's sister-in-law, Teresa Giudice, was behind the buzz.

"Teresa told me that 'rumor' about Melissa when she first started the show," Laurita Tweeted Saturday. "She wanted her out then. She knew. She plotted it. She played dumb on camera and even defended Melissa."

And in a separate Tweet: "Teresa is scum!"

No response yet from Giudice, but as for the alleged stripper in the mix, she took to her website to refute the rumor.

"We are filming season 4 so there is not too much I can confirm, but there is one thing that I would like to clarify ...the accusation that I was once a dancer at a strip club," Gorga writes. "This is 100% NOT TRUE. I did bartend fro a few weeks at a bikini bar while I was in college. My outfit was a tank top, shorts and sneakers. SORRY, no bubbies there."

"The reason I am so adamant about clearing this up is because people are making false accusations solely to hurt me and my family," she continues. "Someone desperately wants to knock me down and prove that I have something to hide, but then tries to cover it up by putting the blame on production."

Laurita, meanwhile, claims to be stepping back from the drama.

"OK, so I'm losing it," she Tweeted Saturday. "This is what all this negativity I'm surrounded w/does 2me. I'm taking deepbreaths&gettingcontrolofmyself."

What to expect from the iPhone event, It's the worst-kept secret since Adam Lambert's sexuality: Apple is expected to unveil a new iPhone 5 or iPhone 4S on Tuesday.

There are a bunch of reasons you already knew this. For one, everyone tech journalist on earth has been writing about the new-now-next-generation iPhone since the company's last "Jesus phone" -- the iPhone 4 -- graced us with its presence in June 2010. You've seen the gossip here, and on countless Apple-focused blogs with apt.

The rumor mill, you'll likely recall, revved to full throttle in early September when CNET reported that an Apple employee lost a prototype of the next iPhone -- likely called the iPhone 5 -- in a Mexican restaurant and bar in San Francisco.

To cap it all off, Apple sent out an e-mail on September 27 teasing reporters with phone-related pictures and this not-so-cryptic tagline: "Let's talk iPhone."

So, yeah, we pretty much know what's coming.

And at the same time, we don't. The tech specs of the new phone are still hotly debated, as reporters scour Apple patents, SKU codes and, of course, Bay Area bars for any remaining iPhone-rumor morsels sure to grab the public's attention.

All will become clear at 10 a.m. PT on Tuesday when Apple hosts its iPhone "launch" event at its headquarters in Cupertino, California. But for those of you who are drooling for the details, here's the wisdom du jour from the People of the Internet:
  • The phone will be called the iPhone 5 or iPhone 4S.
  • It likely will cost $200 with a 2-year wireless service contract from AT&T or Verizon.
  • The iPhone may come to Sprint, too. (But not T-Mobile, as Mark Milian reports).
  • It will be "skinnier, shorter and wider" than before, according to Gizmodo, which is basing these assumptions on supposed leaked cases for the phone and on "informed renderings."
  • PC World (irony noted) expects the iPad's faster processor to squeeze its way into the iPhone.
  • The phone will have a "teardrop" back, meaning it's fatter at the top than the bottom, according to the blog.

This is My Next. The iPhone 4 is flat on both sides.
  • It may have a "world mode," meaning it could transition onto other cell networks easily.
  • It will have an upgraded, 8-megapixel rear camera.
  • It may employ new voice-recognition features, says Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster. His evidence? That e-mail Apple sent to journalists: "Let's talk iPhone." Voice-recognition. Get it?
  • It's possible Apple will unveil not one -- but TWO iPhones.
  • If so, the second likely will be cheaper and will have less storage capacity. Some bloggers have taken to calling it the iCloud Phone, because it could tie in with Apple's new cloud-computing services. (Side note: Al Gore, an Apple board member, gave some credence to the second-iPhoners when he mentioned "the new iPhones coming out next month" during a speech in South Africa).
  • Based on Apple's past iPhone release patterns, the phone (or phones) will likely go on sale later this month (most bloggers predict mid-October).
Of course, as is the case with any Apple product, die-hard fans will buy whatever the new thing is -- no matter what it is exactly, and no matter how much it costs.

The other mysteries surrounding the Tuesday event are all about Apple's leadership. This is the first product announcement for Apple -- the world's most valuable company -- under the direction of its new CEO, Tim Cook. There's speculation about whether Cook, who is reported to be a private person, will take center stage at the event or yield the spotlight to his deputies.

And there are rumors that Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, who handed over the company to Cook in August following a medical leave of absence, will make an appearance at the event.

It seems likely that Cook will run the show, and BusinessInsider and plenty of others expect as much. It wouldn't be the first time Cook helped with an Apple presentation -- he appeared onstage in January when the company unveiled an iPhone on Verizon's network -- but it would be his first time as headliner.

But, like the rest of you, we'll just have to hang on until Tuesday -- when all these rumors get zapped with a dose of reality.

No iPhone 5? Apple May Only Launch iPhone 4S, Expecting Apple to unveil the iPhone 5? You may be in for a disappointment, according to various reports. New evidence and speculation points to the existence of an iPhone 4S, rather than the iPhone 5 many people are expecting. The most recent iTunes developer beta includes several references to a CDMA iPhone 4S, according to 9to5mac.

Apple’s inventory system contains references to an iPhone 4S as well, under the codename “N94AP.” This story only gets more intriguing, though. Macrumors points out that the iPhone 4S reference has been in the iTunes beta since late August. And a Gizmodo report obtained pictures of what it believes to be a cheaper model of the iPhone 4, codename “N90A.”

So where does this leave the iPhone 5 and the iPhone 4S? Once again, these rumors show that nobody actually knows what Apple is planning. Several of our sources are certain that Apple will only release an iPhone 4S, while a few others think Apple will be rolling out an upgraded iPhone 4 and an iPhone 5 next week. Nobody can agree on what Apple plans to unveil on Tuesday.

But here’s something to consider: a whopping 86% of Mashable‘s readers think that Apple will be releasing the iPhone 5 on Tuesday. Anything less than that is likely to be seen as a disappointment. Regardless, we expect the new iPhone to sport an 8MP camera, the faster Apple A5 processor and a voice-based “Assistant” feature based on its 2009 Siri acquisition.

Would you be disappointed if Apple released an iPhone 4S instead of an iPhone 5? What features do you want to see the most in a new Apple phone?

Cook's time to shine with new Apple iPhone 5, Tim Cook finally gets his chance to stride out from under Steve Jobs' shadow, and he could not have picked a better time or device to mark his unofficial debut as Apple Inc's CEO.

The latest generation of the iPhone still the smartphone industry's gold standard after four years -- is expected to see the light of day this Tuesday, just in time for the holidays.

Even in a dismal economy, consumers should again line up in droves for a souped-up device that also marks Cook's first major product launch since taking over from Jobs in August.

The so-called iPhone 5 is widely expected to have a bigger touchscreen and faster processor than the current iPhone 4, which helped the company stay a step ahead of rivals in an increasingly competitive smartphone market.

Its challenge will be to "wow" consumers with yet more game-changing innovations and top itself. The aging iPhone 4 is still an unqualified blockbuster: with more than 20 million sold in the third quarter that ended June 25 alone, it is likely to become the world's top-selling smartphone.

"Consumers view Apple products as a must-have," said Channing Smith, co-manager of the Capital Advisors Growth Fund, which owns Apple shares. "Apple phones and products have become almost a necessity. We don't expect them to falter."

But the latest version of the gadget that helped define the smartphone category is coming at a time when the world economy is slowing and competition is at its peak. More than 550,000 Google Inc Android-based devices -- including tablets -- are activated each day globally.

Apple's ability to generate enthusiasm among consumers and its command of the higher-end market, however, may make it less susceptible to a broader slowdown, investors and analysts say.

Cook is likely to take the stage at Apple central at Cupertino's 1 Infinite Loop, where Wall Street will get a chance to see first-hand how the acknowledged operations maven fares at a major product launch. Although a highly regarded executive, he is not known for pitching products.

SILICON VALLEY DEBUT

Apple product launches are the most closely watched events on the technology calendar. The new model, which some have dubbed the iPhone 5, will have a bigger touch screen, better antenna and an 8-megapixel camera, one source with knowledge of the matter told Reuters in August.

The event will take place in Silicon Valley rather than downtown San Francisco where Apple made some of its most famous announcements.

"Most interesting is whether new CEO Tim Cook will lead the keynote and whether ... Steve Jobs will participate," Sterne Agee analyst Shaw Wu said.

"Tim is perceived as an operations and supply chain guru and that he certainly is, but we believe it is too early to write him off as not a visionary and showman like Steve Jobs."

The Apple co-founder, a pancreatic cancer survivor who stepped down in August after his third medical leave, is expected to make an appearance, though a no-show by the Apple co-founder will not be a major disappointment.

"Investors would like to see Steve Jobs to confirm that he is still involved, but we have dealt with the fact that he's not going to be as involved," Smith said. "We'd love to see an appearance but it's not critical."

Apple's iPhone has been a huge success since it debuted in 2007, transforming the company from a computer and music-player maker into one of the world's leading mobile device makers. It accounts for about 40 percent of Apple's revenue, with margins estimated at roughly 60 percent.

But it faces stiff competition from phones based on Google's Android operating system, such as Samsung Electronics' Galaxy line.

The iPhone's U.S. market share in August was 28 percent, making it No. 2. Android was No. 1 with 43 percent of the U.S. market, Nielsen data show.

Yet longer-term, investors are more focused on Apple's international push, particularly in Asia.

Cook has said China is a key market. The world's most valuable technology company has mostly catered to the higher end of a booming market in those countries, but is now trying to release a cheaper phone, sources told Reuters in August.

WHAT'S IN STORE TUESDAY?

Finnish rival Nokia dominates the lower end of the lucrative Asian market. Some investors and analysts expect another version of the iPhone 4 to be launched along with the next-generation model.

"We also expect the announcement of a lower-priced iPhone that will basically be a lower-cost 3GS," Jefferies & Co analyst Peter Misek said, referring to the event.

The new phone is prompting Wall Street to forecast that Apple will post enormous sales in the October-to-December quarter, with shipments expected to be in the range of 29 million.

The iPhone is currently sold by AT&T Inc and Verizon Wireless, a venture of Verizon Communications Inc and Vodafone Group Plc. Many analysts expect Sprint will become the third U.S. operator to sell the iPhone when the next version is launched.

The new phone is also expected to accelerate the momentum in Apple shares, which are trading at around $381, off a record high of $422.86. The stock remains a far cry from brokerage price targets that range from an average of $490 to a high of $666.

The launch event invite, when it landed last week, set off a typical frenzy of speculation. Various analysts quickly dissected one image in particular on the Apple invitation, which depicts four familiar icons found on iPhones, as a possible signal for the number of new phones to be unveiled.

Speculation about the new iPhone's features is fevered, with the list of possibilities ranging from faster wireless Internet connectivity to voice-navigation capabilities.

"What we found most intriguing is that the green phone icon on the invite has a number 1 next to it, perhaps signaling that only one new iPhone will be announced," Wu said.

Mystery Surrounds Kate's Disappearing Sapphire Ring, The mysterious case of Kate's disappearing ring: Why we saw the Duchess's sapphire sparkler...then it was gone.

It is probably the most famous engagement ring in the world. So it didn't take long for a few people to notice that the Duchess of Cambridge's ever-present sapphire and diamond sparkler had mysteriously vanished yesterday.
Catherine, who was with her husband, Prince William, for the opening of a new cancer centre, was wearing the £250,000 Garrard ring, once owned by Princess Diana, when she arrived at the Royal Marsden in south London. It was a distinctive shock of colour against her oatmeal-coloured Amanda Wakeley dress.

Mysterious case: The Duchess of Cambridge was wearing her sapphire engagement ring when she arrived at the Royal Marsden in London yesterday (left) but it had vanished by the time she left two hours later (right)

Of course, there was a simple explanation for the missing ring. Rather than misplacing it, or making some ill-timed statement about the state of her marriage, the Duchess had simply stowed it in her LK Bennett clutch bag for hygiene reasons on the advice of hospital staff.

The most famous engagement ring in the world: It didn't take long for a few people to notice that the Duchess of Cambridge's ever-present sapphire and diamond sparkler had vanished

Hospital protocol: The Duchess left her ring and clutch in the care of hospital staff for hygiene reasons. The Duke had removed his jacket, tucked away his tie and rolled his sleeves for the same purpose.

A palace source told People magazine: 'The plan was always to take it off when she went into the ward in the same way the Duke and palace staff rolled up sleeves and tucked ties into their shirts.'

They revealed that William's jacket and Catherine's clutch were left in the care of hospital staff while they were given a behind-the-scenes tour of the Oak Centre. And before their audiences with young patients, they followed strict hospital protocol by rubbing antiseptic gel onto their hands.

Sparking form: The Duchess also wore a small silver, diamond-studded cross on a chain and diamond earrings by Kiki McDonough, which she was not required to remove

The Duchess also wore a small diamond-studded silver cross on a chain and diamond earrings by Kiki McDonough, which she was not required to remove. The look was completed by sheer hosiery and her favourite LK Bennett patent pumps. Amanda Wakeley expressed her delight at Catherine choosing her design on Twitter. She tweeted: 'See The Duchess of Cambridge looking stunning wearing AW'11... She also snapped up the dress in black and gunmetal!'
